Mindfulness
How to Begin
Getting started with mindfulness requires only minutes a day.
Beginning is the first, and maybe hardest, step.
Five Steps to Start
Decide to practice. (Mindfulness only works if you practice)
Focus on doing just a little bit each day. (It's not a race)
Aim for consistancy. (Find a time that makes sense to you)
Bring the practices into your daily life. (There are lots of opportunities throughout the day)
Have fun. (No self judgement)
Go from doing and moving to simply being. Too often we react to situations that in retrospect could have been handled differently.
Learn to pause with self compassion and transform negative reactions into appropriate responses.
Try this:
Let your back be straight but not too tight. Begin by allowing your body to settle and gently close your eyes or let your gaze soften. Next notice your breathing. You don't need to breathe in a special way. Just notice the inhale....and then notice the exhale........if your mind starts to wander you might mentally say, inhale as you inhale and exhale as you exhale. Allow yourself to relax a bit more with each breath. After you have repeated this five times, open your eyes and notice how you feel.
